DAY 1 - Put the “why’s” before the “how’s”

Here’s Part One of the PharmBoard.com 5-Day Minicourse designed to get you off to a great start on your search for a job as a
Pharmaceutical Sales Representative.

ABSTRACT

—-> There is no question that you need to be able to answer more than “Why do you want to be a Pharmaceutical Sales
Representative?” Day One of this Five Day Minicourse explains how you should go about answering this question. It’s for your
own good.

PART ONE: KNOW THYSELF

The question is often posed in the form “Why Pharma Sales?” It’s the most important question you will ever be asked in an
interview, and it’s the question you need to spend a good deal of time thinking about before you ever even begin what is often a
long and emotionally battering job search.

After all, you don’t want to search for the job if it isn’t really the one for you, right?

Your answer to this question should be thorough. Don’t allow yourself to answer it in a few words, or even a few sentences.

Force yourself to come up with five reasons you want a job in pharma sales and then expand on each one of these reasons in
such way that you could convince your friends and family that is indeed the best job for you (this will prove to be quite handy
in Lesson Three).

Here are a few ticklers to help you get started . . .

  1. What do you tell your friends and family is so great about this job?
  2. What do you see yourself doing 5, 10, or 15 years after you get a job as a pharmaceutical sales rep?
  3. How would your motivation change if the job paid only $30,000 per year?

I could explain to you what the interviewer is looking for when He/she asks this question (and you can find that in the message boards), but first you need to answer it for YOURSELF.

Before you go any further in your search, ANSWER THIS QUESTION.

If you don’t answer it, or don’t answer it honestly, you will either be unsuccessful in your job search, OR be miserable in
your job.

Stick around for PART TWO: ORGANIZE YOUR JOB SEARCH . . .

Here’s to knowing yourself!
